It is a slow, gentle exercise, making it suitable for nearly everyone, but also contains hidden strength.According to a report by Harvard Medical School, it has value in treating or preventing many health problems. Another report found that tai chi can be better than aerobic exercise at regulating blood pressure. With its relaxing, fluid movements, tai chi teaches a new, natural way of moving. What makes it so valuable is that you can get started no matter your fitness level, and even if you aren't in the best of health. It's also a great social activity.

What to expect

My name is Sheenagh. In 2019 I started going to a 'Tai Chi for Rehabilitation' class after time in a wheelchair. I got so much benefit from it that in 2025 I decided to train as an instructor with the Deyin Taijiquan Institute, one of the most acknowledged Tai Chi Chuan and Qigong Institutes in Europe. The founder of Deyin is considered the highest authority in the world on 24 step simplified Yang style taijiquan, among many other forms. In fact, his uncle created the 24 step, which is perhaps the most widely performed tai chi exercise today.Deyin (GB) work closely with the NHS, city councils and the UK government and national charities, with the goal of using tai chi to help people improve their health and well-being.During class, wear comfortable clothes which allow you to move easily, and flat, flexible shoes.Chairs will be available if you need to sit. Many tai chi moves can be done both sitting or standing.Your first class is free, to give you a chance to see if tai chi is for you. In return, you will be asked to fill in a short form for insurance purposes, and to find out if any adaptations are needed to help you get the most out of the class.I hope you will find tai chi fun and relaxing and enjoy this form of 'meditation in motion'.
